The rules that apply
Generally, these apply to cooperative estimated-tax payments.
- The cooperative must make installment payments of estimated tax if its total tax for the year (less applicable credits) is expected to be $500 or more.
- Installments are due by the 15th day of the 4th, 6th, 9th, and 12th months of the tax year.
- If any due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the payment is due the next regular business day.
- Installment payments of estimated tax must be made via electronic funds transfer.
- If, after figuring and depositing estimated tax, the tax liability turns out different than estimated, installments may need to be refigured.
- If earlier installments were underpaid, the cooperative may owe a penalty.
- If estimated tax was overpaid, you may be able to get a quick refund by filing Form 4466 (Corporation Application for Quick Refund of Overpayment of Estimated Tax).
